MAIA – LAUNCH OF A NEW GLOBAL FINANCIAL LITERACY BODY, DESIGNED TO SPREAD BEST PRACTICE IDEAS AROUND THE WORLD
‘MAIAs’ attract early sponsorship from forward-looking financial firms
SINGAPORE, March 10, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards (The MAIAs) announced today that it has secured initial sponsorship from influential financial players, as the body heads into the first round of awards this spring.
Designed to “make money better”, MAIAs is a new entity focused on raising awareness of the many problems caused by poor financial literacy, while finding the best solutions from around the world – and shining a spotlight on them via a very publicized. awards system judged by leading academics, NGOs, journalists, influencers and asset managers.
The first sponsors announced today for the first MAIA 2022 include Lanturna fintech company specializing in corporate and fund services; doterusa Singapore-digital wealth platform headquartered at; Bitmex Academya multimedia platform for teaching cryptography and Albizia Capitala fund management company.
Investor and industry veteran Michael Gilmorefounder of The MAIAs, commented: “There is currently no ecosystem for financial literacy – people are working on it all over the world, but with little idea of what others are doing, what is good or dangerous.
“We believe MAIA can be like a pin in a windmill, connecting work done to growing need, keeping things going, making money. We couldn’t be more grateful to our inaugural sponsors for their demonstration of support and I look forward to building things together,” Gilmore added.
The global pandemic has recently highlighted the fragility of many people’s finances (a third of people globally have less than seven days of financial cushion). This shocking reality, coupled with the fact that even in a relatively financially literate country like the UK, nine out of ten people say their education has not prepared them to handle money, underscores the urgent need for a greater money awareness and inclusion.
Joining the MAIAs Crusade as judges for the 2022 top awards are a host of luminaries in the field, including Patrick Jenkinsdeputy editor of the Financial Times, Selina Flaviusaward-winning financial influencer and author of “Black Girl Finance”, David FernandezDirector of the SKB Institute for Financial Economics at Singapore Management University and Samuel RheeCIO of Endowus, the fastest growing digital wealth platform in Asia.
